Questions

What is the difference between 감사합니다 and 고맙습니다?

Almost none in politeness. 감사 comes from Chinese, 고맙 is native Korean; 고맙습니다 can sound a little warmer. Both are safe with anyone.

Why is 감사합니다 pronounced 감사함니다?

The ㅂ in 합 comes right before ㄴ, and Korean turns ㅂ into ㅁ before ㄴ or ㅁ. The X-Ray above shows it: 합 → 함.

How do you answer thank you?

아니에요 (anieyo), "it is nothing", or 별말씀을요 (byeolmalsseumeullyo), "don't mention it".

What does 수고하셨습니다 mean?

Literally "you worked hard". Koreans say it at the end of a shift or a meeting, where English might say thanks for today.
